Admission to RIT Dubai is selective and personal, considering factors like past high school/college performance, admission test scores, competitiveness of previous education, and selected academic program. Recommendations and interviews may also be influential.

General Admission Requirements

Minimum GPA

70%+ high-school average or recognised equivalent.

English Proficiency

IELTS 6.0 / TOEFL iBT 79, or pass the placement test.

Placement Exams

All incoming freshman students are required to take placement exams at the beginning of the semester to determine appropriate course levels. Students with A Level, IB Higher Level, or Advanced Placement (AP) courses may be exempt from certain exams based on final grades. Specific placement tests are required for Engineering (Math and Physics), Business, Computing, and Psychology (Math). Cybersecurity students have an optional physics placement test, and New Media Design students have an optional math placement test for electives. Placement in Math and Physics courses is determined by test scores (EMSAT or RIT placement tests) and SAT 1 Math scores. Achieving higher scores can lead to bypassing foundational courses. Sample tests are available for Physics, and Math placement test samples are available online after creating an account, with practice tests and learning materials recommended for preparation.

Each degree program has specific admission requirements. Undergraduate applicants must submit a high school transcript, meet a minimum grade requirement, and provide standardized test scores. Some programs may also require placement tests. Specific curriculum requirements are outlined for UAE, American/SABIS/, British, French, Pakistan/India, and International Baccalaureate for Engineering, Computing, Business, Psychology, and New Media Design programs. Students who fail to meet Math/Science minimum requirements may be conditionally accepted through bridging courses. Achieving minimum requirements does not guarantee direct admission; Math placement test scores are also considered.

English Language Requirement

Bachelor's degree programs at RIT Dubai are taught in English and require basic English language competency. Minimum requirements for full and conditional admission are outlined for Academic IELTS, TOEFL ITP, TOEFL IBT, and EmSAT - English. IELTS Indicator Test, Duolingo English Test, IELTS General Training, PTE Academic Test, and Home-Based TOEFL exams are not accepted. TOEFL and IELTS scores are valid for 2 years, EmSAT for 18 months. Placement in English courses (ELCA 062, UWRT 100, UWRT 150) is based on English test scores. Exemptions from English proficiency tests are available for students following UAE Ministry of Education Curriculum and International Curricula (American, British, IB, Australian, Canadian, SABIS) if English is the primary language of instruction and specific grade criteria are met. Indian Curriculum students may also qualify for exemption with a certified letter confirming English as the medium of instruction. Students interested in skipping foundational English courses may attempt a standardized English proficiency test.
