Overview

Master in Public Health (MPH) program offered by the College of Medicine, Gulf Medical University received the initial accreditation from Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA), Ministry of Education, UAE in November, 2025. MPH program is now being offered in collaboration with the University of Arizona which is ranked among the top 1% of the universities worldwide by QS World Rankings 2018. This is the only program of its kind in UAE with an internationally recognized curriculum. MPH program is designed for working professionals with a flexible learning schedule.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, graduates will be able to:

Apply epidemiological methods to the breadth of settings and situations in public health practice
Apply quantitative and qualitative data collection methods appropriate for a given public health context
Analyze quantitative and qualitative data using biostatistics, informatics, computer-based programming and software, as appropriate
Interpret results of data analysis for public health research, policy or practice
Compare the organization, structure and function of health care, public health and regulatory systems across national and international settings
Analyze the means by which structural bias, social inequities and racism undermine health and create challenges to achieving health equity at organizational, community and societal levels

Academic Requirements

Graduate of Science/Health or Biological Sciences from accredited school with cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on 4.0 scale
CGPA less than 3.0 may be admitted conditionally provided student registers 9 credit hours and obtains B average or above
Exempt from English language proficiency test if previous degree completed in English-medium institution
Must have proficiency in spoken/written English via TOEFL, IELTS, or UA CESL
TOEFL: Score of 90 on iBT test or higher
IELTS: Overall score of 7, no less than 6 on individual band
UA CESL: B2 level proficiency required

Assess population needs, assets and capacities that affect communities' health

Apply awareness of cultural values and practices to the design or implementation of public health policies or programs

Design a population-based policy, program, project or intervention

Explain basic principles and tools of budget and resource management

Apply methods to evaluate public health programs

Analyze multiple dimensions of the policy-making process, including the roles of ethics and evidence

Propose strategies to identify stakeholders and build coalitions and partnerships for influencing public health outcomes

Advocate for political, social or economic policies and programs that will improve health in diverse populations

Evaluate policies for their impact on public health and health equity

Apply principles of leadership, governance and management, which include creating a vision, empowering others, fostering collaboration and guiding decision making

Apply negotiation and mediation skills to address organizational or community challenges

Communicate audience-appropriate public health content, both in writing and through oral presentation

Program Requirements

Completion of 44 credits
Obtaining a minimum CGPA of 3.0
Obtaining a minimum pass mark of 80% (Grade B) for each course
Submitting and defending a thesis to the satisfaction of the thesis evaluation committee with a minimum pass mark of 80%
