Overview

The Dual PhD in HPE program has been designed and planned by the Dept. of HPE at the College of Medicine, Gulf Medical University (GMU) in partnership with the Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) in the Netherlands. It comprises a balance of synchronous and asynchronous online activities, interspersed with face-to-face periods (bootcamps) at Gulf Medical University (GMU) in Ajman UAE, where students and faculty can meet and interact with the wider health professions education community. This program aims to graduate scholars and leaders who can transform health professions education (HPE) at institutional, national and regional levels. The program offers ease of study with a flexible learning schedule that best suits working professionals.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, graduates will be able to:

Exhibit a deep understanding of the theories, philosophies, and methodology of educational research in HPE.
Develop the entire search, inquiry, and review process to filter relevant evidence from the literature.
Apply research designs and methodologies to advance the field of HPE and practice.
Design curricula and evaluate the effectiveness of HPE programs.
Critically evaluates the effectiveness of new instructional methods, assessment, clinical reasoning, and professionalism.
Participate in peer-reviewed scholarship in a specific domain in HPE.
Demonstrate leadership skills as a member of interprofessional teams to improve health outcomes.

Academic Requirements

Students should have completed a master's degree in Health Professions Education or relevant branches of medicine with CGPA of not less than 3.0 (out of 4.0).

Motivation letter (500-1000 words)
Recommendation letter
Submit a literature review (up to 1000 words) on a selected topic by the committee.
Suggest 3 approaches on the same line of research in an online presentation.

Attested High School Transcript of Grades 10 or 11, & 12 covering Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics & English.

Equivalency Certificate from the Ministry of Education, UAE for international curriculum

Program Requirements

Duration: 4 Years
The program runs over four academic years
Blended learning intensive delivery mode program delivered in blocks of face-to-face sessions (bootcamps) along with LIVE synchronous sessions and asynchronous activities
First three semesters: advanced courses in various domains in HPE and scholarships with a total of 25 CH
All students must pass a comprehensive exam before moving to the Thesis with 30 CH
Start data collection, analysis and implementation of four studies
Thesis comprises a compilation of four publications with specified chapters (Introduction, Study 1-4 manuscripts, General Discussion, Summary)
